DE SMET — Clarence Penner, 86, of De Smet, passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at Village Assisted Living in De Smet.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. today at Faith Mennonite Church in rural Iroquois.

Clarence Penner was born May 29, 1934, to Issac and Maria Ensz Penner near Inman, Kansas.

He married Betty Toews on May 26, 1957, at Inman, Kansas. In 1985, they purchased a farm nine and one-half miles north of Iroquois.
They were blessed with five sons. When the youngest son was 19, they learned he had cancer. Through his sickness and death in 2003, Dad learned a new level of trust, leaving us with many good examples.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; children, Lonnie and Carolee, Bruce and Quinda, Roger and Elsie,  Duane and Brenda; daughter-in-law, Sue and Les Reimer; one brother, Abe and Clarabel; two sisters-in-law, Pearl Ensz and Clara Toews; 23 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were one son, Verle; one sister; three brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and one grandchild.
