Clark-Willow Lake boys finish second in LCC meet


DEUEL — The Clark-Willow Lake Cyclones finished second to the Flandreau Fliers in the boys’ varsity cross country meet held Monday at Deuel. A total of 13 points put Flandreau in first, while 25 were tallied for the Cyclones. Sioux Valley took third at a score of 26, De Smet finished at 33 for fourth, while Deuel were last at 36.
Leading the boys was David Allen of Flandreau with a time of 17:25.51, Baylor Beck of De Smet was right behind in second place at 17:41.81. Clark-Willow Lake’s Charlie Spieker took fifth place at a time of 18:28.61, while Brady Jordan followed at 18:32.67 also for the Cyclones. De Smet’s Logan Millman finished at 19:00.57 for 12th, and Gunner Kvistad was 14th with a time of 19:27.96.
The Deuel Cardinals totaled 14 points to take the title in the girls’ varsity, Flandreau was in second with 19, while De Smet had 26 for third place. Sioux Valley were fourth with 32 and Clark-Willow Lake in fifth with a score of 47. Other area finishers were Haden Palmlun in 21st, at 23 was Andy Close, Schuyler McElhone was 25th, Ethan EcEhlhone came in at 26, and 28th was Waylon Olson.
Isabelle Bloker of Sioux Valley was the fastest runner at a time of 20:00.70. Clark-Willow Lake’s Danielle Batchelor finished at 22:11.25 to take fifth place, while for De Smet in sixth was Mirra Beck with 22:18.99 and Carly Wiese in eighth at a 22:21.94 finishing time. Emily Martens placed 11th for De Smet at 22:44.11, Aslyssa Asleson took 19th at 24:10.15. Also finishing for girls varsity was Katelyn Markel in 24th, Grace Peterson in 25th, at 26 was Jordyn Maynard and Samantha Schuelke at 27.
In junior varsity action, Flandreau claimed first place with a score of 6 in both the girls and boys cross country. For boys, Dylan Christenson of Flandreau finished first at 10:53.43, while De Smet’s Kasen Janssen finished at 12:37.92 for 12th place.
The girls junior varsity were led by Flandreau in the first four spots, while Emma Peterson was 18th for the Cyclones.
