DE SMET — Claudia Gayle (Linderman) Johnson, 66, of De Smet, passed into heaven Sunday, November 8, 2020, at her home in rural De Smet.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, at United Methodist Church in De Smet, with Pastor Tia Feldberg, Pastor Dale Stoebner, and Pastor Kippy Udehn officiating.
Burial will follow at De Smet Cemetery in De Smet. Visitation hours are 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, at Osthus Funeral Home in De Smet.
Claudia was born to Arthur and Elaine (Roberta Romans) Linderman September 4, 1954, in Aberdeen. The family then moved to Huron, where she attended First Baptist Church and graduated from high school in 1972. She attended SDSU for one year. In 1989 Claudia enrolled at DSU receiving a Bachelor of Science in education. She enjoyed working with all ages of children and giving children’s sermons on Sunday mornings which she began doing in her teen years and on. Claudia taught in Hitchcock for two years.
On July 20, 1991, she with her children, married the love of her life, Mark E. Johnson of De Smet. She then became a high school substitute teacher. Claudia became a certified lay speaker with United Methodist Church. She also loved speaking with her husband Mark at various local churches. Claudia continued to do her children’s sermons at De Smet United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading, sewing, quilting and spending time with her family and friends.
Happy to have shared her life were her husband, Mark; and her children, Jon Burger, Sara and Wade Geyer, Laura and Jason Ries, Amy Camin; stepchildren, Heather and Eric Everett, Raymond and Lexi Johnson; mother, Elaine Linderman of Huron; brothers, Craig and Alan Linderman of Denver, sister, Susan Linderman and her husband, Mark Klumph of Leola.
Preceding and waiting for her are her father, Art; grandson, Preston; grandparents; and stepdaughter, Candice Johnson. She looked forward to this joyous reunion!
