HURON — Three students will pursue their dream of becoming a nurse, thanks to the generosity of a donor who had a passion for health care and education.
The Colleen Yunker Education Fund was established at South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) to support students committed to studying and working in South Dakota. In addition, a portion of the funds have been designated each year for the Huron Regional Medical Center Foundation’s Healthy Huron scholarship fund.
Hailey Bixler, Sarah Renner and Reagan Rozell are the first students to be awarded scholarships through the fund. Bixler is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at South Dakota State University. Renner and Rozell have completed their Licensed Practical Nurse and are now starting the Associate Degree in Nursing program at Southeast Technical College.
Under the terms of the scholarship fund, all three have committed to return to work at HRMC or in the Huron community, helping meet the need for trained medical professionals into the future.
The Colleen Yunker Education Fund is part of the Steele Family Foundation at SDCF.
