HURON – A Beadle County commissioner is in a Sioux Falls hospital with serious non-life threatening injuries following a two-vehicle crash five miles south of Huron Monday afternoon.
The Highway Patrol said a 2007 GMC Sierra driven by commission member Larry Mattke, 79, of rural Huron was southbound on Highway 37, slowing down to make a left turn onto 216th Street, when another southbound vehicle, a 2017 Ford Escape driven by Mark Schouwenburg, 42, of Madison, ran into the back of the Sierra.

Mattke was taken by ambulance to Huron Regional Medical Center and then airlifted to Sioux Falls. He was not wearing a seatbelt and charges are pending.
