Northeast Conference Meet
WEBSTER — Nick Batchelor of Milbank won the boys’ portion of the Northeast Conference Cross Country Meet on Wednesday, leading the Bulldogs to the team title in the process. The Aberdeen Roncalli Cavaliers won the girls’ title.
The Roncalli girls’ eased home with 19 points, putting all four of its scoring runners in the top 10 in the race. Milbank finished second in the race and Deuel was third. Clark-Willow Lake finished fifth in the girls’ team race.
Kenzie Hamann of Deuel won the girls’ individual title in a time of 21:00. Roncalli Runners Paige Schmidt and Lauren Dosch finished second and third, respectively.
Danielle Batchelor of Clark-Willow Lake was the top finishing Cyclone in the race, taking 15th place. Kately Merkel finished 31st. Redfield’s Ellie Evans finished 24th in the race.
Milbank scored 22 points in the boys’ race, edging Webster Area, which ended with 25. Clark-Willow Lake was third with 44 points.
Batchelor clocked a time of 16:46.25 to easily win the boys’ race. Drew Reetz finished second and Milbank teammates Zippy Bock and Brady Femling were third and fourth.
Clark-Willow Lake runners Brady Jordan, Charlie Spieker and Schuyler McElhone finished 7th, 8th and 9th, respectively. Redfield’s Riley Whitley took 12th in the race.
Both Clark-Willow Lake and Redfield will be back in competition on Oct. 17 at the Region 1A meet in Webster.
COLMAN — The Dell Rapids St. Mary’s boys’ team took the title, and the Estelline-Hendricks girls’ team emerged on top of the girls’ field at the Dakota Valley Conference Cross Country Meet Tuesday afternoon at the Colman Country Club.
E-H ended with 13 team points, a score matched by defending state champion Deubrook Area, but earned the girls’ title by having its third scoring person finish ahead of Deubrook Area’s. De Smet’s girls finished fourth and the boys’ team finished fifth.
Ellie Olsen of Deubrook won the individual title, clocking a time of 20:30.88 over the 5K course, and finishing more than a minute ahead of Reese Luze of Colman-Egan.
Top local finishers included Mirra Beck of De Smet in 12th, while teammate Carley Wiese of De Smet crossed the line in 14th place and Emily Martens took 16th.
DRSM took the boys’ title with 17 points, with runner up Estelline-Hendricks taking second with 26 points.
Dell Rapids runner Jacob Vogel broke the tape in 17:29.18, 25 seconds ahead of runner up Rhett McMasters of Lake Preston.
De Smet’s Baylor Beck was 10 seconds back in fourth place, while teammate Logan Millman finished 12th. Andy Close was 30th and Haden Palmlund was 31st.
De Smet will host the Region 2B meet on Wednesday.
