HURON — The Huron High School drama department will present “Illinois Pete,” a comedy by Dan Neidermyer, at 7 p.m. tonight and Saturday at Huron High School. The play is directed by Molly Perry.
The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for students.
“Illinois Pete” is set in the all-girl school, Jackson Academy. Pushed to the financial brink by a scheming Phineas T. Fobbs, nefarious great-grandson of the kind philanthropist who a century ago provided his own personal estate for use as a school for girls. The Fobbs’ estate, consisting of several hundred acres of rolling woodlands, a sparkling lake, and ten architecturally-exquisite buildings was made available on a 99-year lease … and the lease is up next Wednesday at midnight.
Illinois Pete to the rescue. There is an ancient rumor about a treasure chest filled with diamonds, jewels, stocks and bonds buried somewhere on campus. But finding that treasure isn’t going to be easy. But the school has a century-old rule — NO MALES ALLOWED! So Illinois Pete will have to go undercover — in the midst of an hysterical female student body and several giddy faculty members who “suspect” a male’s afoot!
