Cyclones second in Region 1B

WATERTOWN — The Clark-Willow Lake girls’ golf team earned a berth in the Class B State Meet with a runner-up finish during the Region 1B Meet on Thursday at Cattail Crossing Golf Course.
The Cyclones finished with a team score of 297, which put them four strokes off the pace set by region champion Castlewood.
Hamlin was third at 299, followed by Deuel at 316 and Webster Area at 406.
All four Clark-Willow Lake golfers finished in the top 10.

Katlyn Maynard was fourth at 91, while Maddie Steen was seventh at 102. Maddie Forest carded a 104 to finish eighth, while Olivia Sass was 10th at 107.
Layce Kooima of Castlewood was the girls’ medalist with an 89. Taylor Koisti of Hamlin was second with a 91, while Jaydyn TeGantvoort was third at 91.
Hamlin used a 16-stroke advantage over Aberdeen Christian to win the Region 1B boys’ title. Great Plains Lutheran was third at 272, followed by Britton-Hecla at 279 and Leola at 284. Clark-Willow Lake was 11th at 309.
Renner Uecker was the lone boys’ golfer for the Cyclones to qualify for the state meet. He was 14th with a 92.
Hudson Fuller finished 30th at 106 for Clark-Willow Lake, while Hunter Lee was 38th at 111.
Devan Weelborg of Hamlin won the boys’ region title with a 71, while Jett Becker of Aberdeen Christian was second at 78. Rounding out the top five were Tanner Preheim of Deuel at 79, Sam Hansen of Great Plains Lutheran at 79 and Carson Pederson of Hamlin at 81.
The Class B State Meets will be held  June 3-4 in Yankton.
