WEBSTER — The Dakota Hills Grizzlies girls’ team and the Warner Monarch boys earned team titles Wednesday at the Region 1B Cross Country meet, held on the Webster Golf Course.
Dakota Hills won the team title with 15 points, putting a pair of runners in the top three. James Valley Christian finished second with 24 points, marking the first time that the Lady Vikings have qualified as a team for the State “B” Meet. Great Plains Lutheran was third with 41 points. Iroquois-Doland was the only other local team in competition, finishing eighth with 64 team points.
Ellie Olsen of defending state champion Deubrook Area was the individual champion, finishing the course in 20:28.22. Dakota Hills runners Victoria Zirbel and Madison Zirbel finished second and third to pace the Grizzlies to the team title.
James Valley Christian was led by Madelynn Brantner’s sixth place finish, while teammate Abby Hasart was right behind in seventh and the team’s third scorer, Rhayonna Hood finished in 12th. Other local runners who finished in the top 20 and thus qualifying for next week’s state meet included Avery Miles of Iroquois-Doland, who finished in fifth place. AbbyKate Hamilton of JVC took 14th.
Warner won the boys’ team title with 25 points, led by Cody Larson who took the individual title in 16:47.75. JVC runner Daniel Ayoroa was second and Riley Benning of Estelline-Hendricks took third.
The team title was Warner’s as they amassed 25 points, edging Northwestern by six points, Tri-State was third with 34. As a team, JVC finished seventh with 68 points, while Iroquois-Doland took eighth with 90.
Ayoroa was the lone local runner to qualify for the state meet.
