HURON — Daniel E. Beckwith, 83, of Huron, passed away Saturday, February 16, 2019, at Huron Regional Medical Center.
His funeral service will be 11 a.m., Friday, February 22, at American Lutheran Church in Huron with military honors by the Huron Veterans Council. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
Dan was born December 24, 1935, at Osmond, Neb. to Phil and Irma Beckwith. He attended Osmond Public School, graduating in 1953. He attended Wayne State College for two semesters before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1954, and trained as an air traffic controller stationed at NAS Barbers Point, Territory of Hawaii (with a brief deployment to NAF Midway Island), and NAS Hutchinson, Kan. After his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1958, he returned to Wayne State, graduating in 1961. That same year he began teaching business education courses at Mitchell Senior High School in Mitchell and remained there until the summer of 1964, when he became employed by the Internal Revenue Service in Aberdeen. He transferred to the Sioux Falls office in 1965, and then to the Huron office in 1967, where he remained until retiring in 1991. He worked in the accounting field for a few years, and in 1998, became employed in the Accounting Department at Dakotaland Federal Credit Union where he remained until his second retirement in 2007.
 Dan met the love of his life, Georgia Herbolsheimer, when they were in the fourth grade and they were married in 1956, in Osmond while he was on leave from the Navy. They raised four sons, Mark, James, Jeffrey, and Eric. Dan was a member of American Lutheran Church in Huron and served on the Huron Library Board off and on over a twenty year period. Dan enjoyed spending time with Georgia and family, working in the yard, and reading, reading, and reading!
 Dan is survived by his wife, Georgia of Huron; three sons, Mark (Susie) of Savanna, Ga., Jim (Tracy), and Eric (Sheri)all of Huron; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Bob (Debra) Beckwith of Greer, S.C.; sister, Margaret (Bill) Clemans of Central City, Neb.; nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Darlene Clark of Plainview, Neb.
 Dan was preceded in death by his parents; Georgia’s parents, George and Anna Herbolsheimer; son, Jeffrey in 1985; and brother-in-law, Vernon Clark.
Memorials are preferred to HRMC Hospice.
