David Ernest Funck, 76, formerly of Huron

NEW HOPE, Minn. — David Ernest Funck, 76, formerly of Huron and Pierre, passed away Dec. 14, 2020, at The Ambassador Good Samaritan in New Hope, Minn.


A private burial service will be later in Huron with family present.


David E. Funck was born Aug. 1, 1944 in Huron, to Ernest G. Funck and Margaret E. Funck - Gibbs (Wolfkeil). He graduated from Huron High School, then enlisted in the U.S. Navy,
training in San Diego, Calif., as an electrician before heading to Vietnam. David also spent four years working in Washington to be close to his brother Jim, sister Anne and their families.

While in California, David met and married Barbara Denning. Together they had a son, Paul E. Funck. David was a dedicated son, a loving and compassionate man who helped others when he could.

His favorite things to do were to play cribbage, fish and cheer for the Minnesota Twins! When able, he was a member of the Huron First Presbyterian Church and the Huron
Riverside Alcoholics Anonymous Club, where he loved to make coffee for the members and play endless hours of cribbage.


Grateful to have shared and reconnected in his life are his son, Paul Funck (Winnie) of West
Virginia; his sister, Anne Reynolds (Funck) of Minnesota; nieces, Stacy Reynolds-Ondov
(Thomas) of Minnesota, Laura Funck-Auckland of Washington, and Tracy Funck-Reilly (Thomas) of Idaho; one nephew, Chris Reynolds of Rapid City; grandchildren, Paul E. Funck II and Alexandra N. Funck; great-grandchildren, Athena Rose and Amelia Grace.


Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Margaret Funck – Gibbs (Wolfkeil); Paul’s Mother, Barbara; his brother, Jim and wife, Jean Funck; niece, Tonya Funck; great-niece, Dara Reynolds; and great-nephew, Kyle Reynolds.
