SIOUX FALLS — David Harris, 87, of Sioux Falls, formerly of De Smet, passed away Thursday, November 29, 2018, at Dow Rummel Village in Sioux Falls.
A funeral service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 7, at De Smet Community Church in De Smet, with lunch following at De Smet American Legion. Visitation hours are 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, December 6, 2018 at Osthus Funeral Home of De Smet. A private committal service with full military rites will be held in De Smet Cemetery.
David Arnold Harris was born in Miller to Herbert and Helen (Moore) Harris on May 23, 1931. He was married to Arlene Hendricks on October 14, 1950. They celebrated 65 years of marriage.
David was active in many activities in De Smet, including Mason’s (33rd degree), Volunteer Fire Department, Ambulance, Legion, Church, and Woodcarvers. He was active in the Army National Guard for 33 years, retiring as Col.
Survivors include his four children, Gerry Lynn (Ken) Allen; Mark (Linda) Harris; Janae (Steve) Bell; and Connie (Bill) Kiecksee; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren (plus one in March).
He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene; his parents; one brother; and two sisters.
