De Smet 3, Wessington Springs 1
DE SMET — Ninth-seed De Smet advanced to the quarterfinals of the Region 3B Tournament with a 3-1 victory against eighth-seeded Wessington Springs on Monday.
The Lady Bulldogs won with set scores of 25-19, 22-25, 25-23 and 25-10.
Kennadi Buchholz was 10 of 12 serving with four aces for De Smet, while Grace Albrecht was 25 of 25 with an ace and Cori Birkel was 18 of 18 with an ace.
Buchholz also had a team-high 18 kills on 41 of 44 attacks for the Lady Bulldogs. Birkel was 14 of 14 with four kills and Autumn Wilkinson was 13 of 15 with four kills.
Emma Albrecht converted on 40 of 40 sets with nine assists, while Grace Albrecht had six assists on 15 of 17 sets.
Wilkinson also tallied a team-high 34 digs, while Reyna Beck had 31 digs and Birkel had 25 digs. Buchholz inked nine blocks.
Piper Jones led Wessington Springs with 3 aces on 16 of 17 serves and had nine kills on 38 of 45 attacks. Alyssa Grohs was 108 of 110 setting with 17 assists.
Maddie Privett had 12 digs for the Lady Spartans, whle Makayla Dornbusch had five blocks.
De Smet, which improved to 6-21, advances to face top-seeded Castlewood (22-4) at 7:15 p.m. Today in Castlewood.
Wessington Springs ends the season with a 7-20 record.
JVC 3, Lake Preston 0
DE SMET — Seventh-seeded James Valley Christian swept No. 10-seeded Lake Preston in the opening round of the Region 3B Tournament on Monday.
The Lady Vikings, who improved to 14-10, won the match with set scores of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-9.
Brenna Held and Angelina Zuccaro each had three aces for JVC, while Karilyn Wieting had an ace.
Held and Zuccaro were also the offensive leaders for JVC with nine kills each. Josalyn Wipf had four kills and a block.
Wieting finished with 19 assists for the Lady Vikings, while Kerstyn Fast had five assists. Emily Wedel had a team-high 18 digs, while Weiting had 16 digs and Zuccaro had 10 digs.
Holly Andrews led Lake Preston with two assists and six sets. Annika Nelson had seven kills and 13 digs.
JVC will face second-seeded Wolsey-Wessington (19-7) in Wolsey at 7:15 p.m., today. Lake Preston ends the season at 3-23.
Arlington 3, Iroquois/Doland 0
DE SMET — Sixth-seeded Arlington defeated Iroquois/Doland 3-0 in the opening round of the Region 3B Tournament on Monday.
The set scores were 25-10, 25-14 and 25-4.
Arlington will face third-seeded Estelline/Hendricks at 6 p.m. today at Wolsey-Wessington.

MILLER — Eighth-seeded Sunshine Bible Academy opened the Region 2B Tournament with a sweep against ninth-seeded Lower Brule on Monday.
The Crusaders, who improved to 5-18, won the match with set scores of 25-14, 25-22 and 25-12.
Liza Konechne was 18 of 19 serving with six aces to lead SBA. Dori Brockel and Beth Konechne each converted on 9 of 10 serves and had four aces, while Ruthe Lopez was perfect on six serves with three aces.
Aja Paul led the offensive attack for the Crusaders with nine kills on 13 of 18 hitting. Shariah Brockel was 25 of 26 hitting with eight kills and Beth Konechne had eight kills on 18 of 23 hits.
Liza Konechne recorded a team-high 21 assists on 50 sets, while Jakki Burma had seven assists on 14 sets. Dori Brock inked 22 digs, while Liza Konechne and Beth Konechne had 15 and 12 digs, respectively.
SBA advances to face top-seeded Faulkton Area in Faulkton at 7 p.m. today in the quarterfinals.
