CAVOUR – A De Smet man has serious, non-life threatening injuries after a two-vehicle crash two miles south of Cavour Wednesday afternoon.
The Highway Patrol said a 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Donald Kees, 72, of De Smet and a 2004 Dodge Ram driven by a 33-year-old male collided shortly before 5:30 p.m. at 409th Avenue and 210th Street.
Kees was taken by ambulance to Huron Regional Medical Center and later transported to a Sioux Falls hospital. He was not wearing a seatbelt and charges are pending.
The other driver – whose name won’t be released for three days because he is considered to be a victim under Marsy’s Law – had minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to HRMC. He was wearing a seatbelt and no charges are pending.
Kees was eastbound on 210th Street approaching 409th Avenue and the other driver was northbound on 409th Avenue approaching 210th Street. Kees failed to stop at a posted stop sign and collided with the Dodge Ram. Both vehicles went into the adjacent ditches.

Others on scene were the Beadle County Sheriff’s Office, Cavour Fire Department, South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation and Huron Ambulance.
