HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. — Dolores Rowan, 92, of Huntington Beach, Calif., and formerly of Huron, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2023.

Her Mass of Chrisitan Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with burial at Esmond Cemetery in Esmonda.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday morning.

Dolores Elaine was born on March 3, 1931, in Esmond to parents Hans and Leona (Ulin) Lorenz. She grew up in the Esmond/Carthage area, attending Esmond Elementary School grades 1-9, and Carthage High School for grades 10-12, graduating in 1949.

Dolores married Richard (Dick/Red) R. Rowan on June 25, 1949. Dolores and Dick had two children born to this union. The family lived on a farm, in the area between Esmond and Carthage until 1965, before moving to Southern California.

Dolores worked as a motel housekeeper when they first moved to California. Later, she worked for two different companies that built electronic devices-the last company being Honeywell. She worked for Honeywell about 20 years before she retired in 1991. At that time, she decided to retire and reside in Huron.

Dolores stayed active and busy up to March 2015, when she had surgery for a brain tumor. Some of her favorites were dancing, vanilla ice cream and more dancing! She once said, “I would rather dance, than eat!” Not only did she love to dance, but she was one of the best dancers on the floor! Dick and Dolores were an image of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers!

She is survived by her two children, Mike (Janey) Rowan and Patty (Terry) Smith; her grandchildren, Lacey (Steve) Fryberger, Cherilyn (Zeljko) Vidovic, Gregory (Kristin) Smith; her great-grandchildren, Cooper Fryberger, Mattlyn Fryberger; her step-great-grandchildren, Brandon Vidovic and Ellie Vidovic; one sister-in-law, Karen Lorenz; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, Richard “Dick” Rowan; grandson, Matthew Rowan; her parents, Hans and Leona Lorenz; brothers, Leonard (Shirley/Donna) Lorenz, Lyle (Peggy/Vi) Lorenz, Larry Lorenz, and Larry Lorenz; her parents-in-law, Joseph and Magdelena Rowan; brothers and sisters-in-law, Cyril (Alice) Rowan, Bun (Loretta) Rowan, Fritz (Renee’) Rowan and Tom (Marie) Rowan.

Dolores was one of the last living, second-generation descendants of her grandparents, Frank John Lorenz, Sr. and Anna (Reimann) Lorenz, who immigrated from Hamburg, Germany in 1893.
