Donald Brenner

HURON — Donald D. Brenner, 78, of Huron, passed away Thursday, November 16, 2023, at his home in Huron.
His Funeral Service will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, at American Lutheran Church.
Visitation will be held Monday, Nov. 20, from 4 to 7 p.m. with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home.
Burial will be held Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 10 a.m. at the South Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery in Sioux Falls.
Donald Dean Brenner was born on June 1, 1945, in Huron to parents, John and Norma (Opperman) Brenner. He grew up in Huron, graduating from high school in 1963. Don was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1965 and served until his honorable discharge until 1967. He joined the South Dakota Army National Guard in 1974 and served full-time until his retirement in 1994.
Don married Shirley Bentz on May 13, 1972, at the American Lutheran Church in Huron. To this union, two children were born, Jason and Lisa.
In his free time, Don had many hobbies. He liked to hunt and fish, watch Nascar and local Huron speedway racing, watching the NFL, reading the newspaper, watching rodeo, and making vegetable soup for his family. Don cherished his time spent with his family, especially his granddaughters, hunting trips with Jason which included elk hunting in Colorado and pheasant hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Huron; his children, Jason (Elena) Brenner of Huron and Lisa Brenner of Sioux Falls; two granddaughters, Gabriella and GraceAnne Brenner of Huron; his brother, Arlan (Beth) Brenner of Huron; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his parents, John and Norma; and one sister, Sandy Weisner.
