DE SMET — Donald E.G. Wendel, 90, of De Smet, died August 20, 2019, at De Smet.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at American Lutheran Church in De Smet, with Rev. Jonathan Dolan officiating. Burial will follow at De Smet Cemetery. Visitation hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Osthus Funeral Home in De Smet, and prior to service at the church.
Donald Wendel was born January 27, 1929, to Jacob and Mary Wendel at Sioux Falls.
He entered the U.S. Army in 1951, and served in Korea. He was discharged in December, 1952. He received the Purple Heart for his service.
He married Sharon Olson on Sept. 10, 1961, at De Smet.
He is survived by his wife; children, Lynette Cattaneo, Sheridan Wyo.; Diane (Jack) Mann, De Smet, Jonathon (Deanna) Wendel, Volga; and Scott Wendel, De Smet; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Darleen (Tom) Terry, Gainesville Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clarence, Harry, Lawrence, Louie and Ramond; and two sisters, Laura Huisenga and Viola Nelson.
