SIOUX FALLS — Donald Halverson, 69, of Sioux Falls and formerly of De Smet, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2018, at his home after a battle with cancer.
A funeral service is scheduled for 10:30 AM Saturday, April 7, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in De Smet. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at St. Thomas Catholic Church in De Smet.
Donald Dean Halverson was born January 20, 1949, north of De Smet to Richard and Margaret (Peg) Halverson. Soon after graduating from De Smet High School, he moved to Des Moines, Iowa to attend computer-programming school.
He was united in marriage to Carmella Riccio. He had been employed at Mercy Hospital, worked as a realtor, an insurance agent, and a car dealer. In 1994, he moved back to De Smet and was employed by Don Irvin Construction until he went out on his own. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards, and getting phone calls from his grandkids.
He is survived by partner, Nadine Stowell of Sioux Falls; son, John (Sarah) Halverson of Ankeny, Iowa; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; siblings, Tom (Patty) Halverson, Dick Halverson, both of De Smet; and Jeanie (Paul) McMasters of Lake Preston; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and grandparents, Lloyd and Mack Halverson, and Fred and Francis Patzwald.
