SHELDON, Iowa — Donald R. Thaden, 94, of Sheldon, Iowa and formerly of Huron, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at Sanford Senior Care at Sheldon, Iowa.
His funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday at the Bethesda Church in Huron. Burial will be in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with military rites by the Huron Veterans Council. Visitation is today from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Kuhler Funeral Home with his family present from 5 to 7 p.m.
Donald Robert Thaden was born April 7, 1923, at Willow Lake to William and Grace (Hassebroek) Thaden. He graduated from Bancroft High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II serving for eighteen months in the military police.
Don married Ruth Hofer in 1947. He was active in the community serving as a 4-H leader, a member of the Bancroft School Board and the Kingsbury County Fair board. He served as Director of Equalization in De Smet and then as the City Assessor in Huron. He was a member of the Bethesda Church.
He is survived by his sons, David Thaden of Paradise, Texas, and Tom (Juanita) Thaden of Sheldon, Iowa; son-in-law, Mark Joneson of Rapid City; brother-in-law, Don Gilbert of Sioux Falls; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; daughter, Roxene; his brother and sisters-in-law, James and his first wife, Lois and his second wife, Rose; as well as his sister, Lois.
