PLANKINTON — Dorene Kay Schmidt 73 of rural Plankinton, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at the Avera Weskota Memorial Hospital in Wessington Springs.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday February 3, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Plankinton. Burial will be in Union Cemetery at Belford Township following a lunch at the church. Prayer service with rosary will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church on Friday with Rosary at 7 p.m.
Dorene was born June 28, 1944, in Pierre to Ray and Edna (Stahl) Speck. She graduated from Deadwood High School in 1962. She was united in marriage to Philip Schmidt August 24, 1968. The couple resided on a dairy farm north of Plankinton. She worked as an administrative assistant at the S.D. State Training School for fourteen years.
She is survived by her husband; children, Michelle (Todd) Karst of Plankinton, Nicolle (Jeff) Jennings of Marshall, Minn., Matthew (Darcie) Schmidt of Kimball, Jonathon (Casey) Schmidt of Plankinton, Catherine Schmidt of Wessington Springs, and Elizabeth (Justin) Morrison of Mitchell; sixteen grandchildren; siblings, Larry (Sheila) Speck of Billings, Mont., Linda (Allen) Clark of Huron; sisters-in-law, Sherri Schmidt, and Margaret (Leo) Koenig; special cousin Patricia Keeton; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is proceeded in death by her parents; and brothers-in-law, Tom Schmidt, and Jim Clark.
