HURON — Dorothy Sibbers, 101, of Huron, passed away Saturday, November 14, 2020, at Avantara – Huron.


Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Her service will be live streamed through the church’s website: www.mtcalvaryhuron.org. Her service will be archived at the website to be viewed at a later date.


Visitation will be the half hour before the service at the church.


Memorials may be directed to Mount Calvary Lutheran Church or their scholarship fund for professional church work or the charity of the donor’s choice.


Dorothy Eichstadt was born to Herman and Martha (Goglin) Eichstadt on March 30, 1919, on a farm west of Wolsey. She attended grade school at St. John’s Lutheran and Updike School in Beadle County. Dorothy graduated from Wolsey High School and Northwest College of Commerce, Huron. She was employed by Beadle County ASCS for four years.


Dorothy married Fred Halbur on March 30, 1942. After World War II, they made their home in Huron. Fred passed away January 1991. On April 17, 1993, Dorothy married Herbert Sibbers. Herb passed away January 18, 1996.


Dorothy was baptized on April 20, 1919, and confirmed on July 12, 1936, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wolsey and since 1946, was a member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron. She was also a member of LWML and the Martha Circle.


Dorothy’s lifetime hobbies were baking, gardening and sewing, especially for her granddaughters. She also made many quilt tops for Mt. Calvary’s mission project.


Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Kathleen (Richard) McGeorge of Eau Clarie, Wisc.; her daughter-in-law, Nancy Halbur of Nederland, Texas; two granddaughters, Kim Halbur of Houston, Texas and Karen Nyhus of Chippewa Falls, Wisc.; four great-grandchildren, Blakely, Veronica, Zack and Henry Nyhus, all of Chippewa Falls, Wisc.; one brother, Willis Eichstadt of Monmouth, Ore.; sisters-in-law, Delores Eichstadt of Wolsey and Jane Eichstadt of Corpus Christi, Texas. She is also survived by Herb’s step-sons, Loren (Sheila) Boyens of Sioux Falls and Steve (Cher) Boyens of Palm Coast, Fla.; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends whom Dorothy enjoyed very much.


Dorothy was preceded in death by her husbands, Fred and Herb; her parents; and one son, Douglas Halbur on January 31, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Dale, Mark, Martin, Fredrick, Richard, Robert and Paul; an infant sister, Mary Alice; and sisters-in-law, Vanieda, Mildred, Evelyn, Edith and Caroline of Wolsey.
