DOT accepting comments for proposed Dakota Ave. project

SIOUX FALLS — The S.D. Dept. of Transportation is now accepting comments on the proposed project to reconstruct S.D. Highway 37 (Dakota Ave.) from 9th Street S to 3rd St. N in Huron. The project is tentatively scheduled for 2024.

Information on the project may be accessed at dot.sd.gov/projects-studies/projects/public-meetings. The site will show proposed areas affected by the project, options being considered for construction and other details.

There is also a form to submit comments to the DOT for the project. At this time there is no public, in-person meeting scheduled.

The proposed project will reconstruct Dakota Ave. from 9th Street S, through the downtown corridor, to 3rd St. N, where last year’s reconstruction of the Highway 14 and 37 intersection left off. The project would require the use of detours onto Kansas Ave., and would be broken into two phases, with timing left up to the contractor that is awarded the project. Each phase is expected to last two to three months, weather permitting.

Questions or comments on the proposed project may be submitted through the website, by email to project engineer Darin Johnson via email (darin.johnson@state.sd.us) by mail: Attn: Darin Johnson, SD Department of Transportation, 5316 West 60th Street North, Sioux Falls, SD, 57107, or by telephone at 605-367-5680, Option 6.
