HURON ­— Dottie Gross, 57, of Huron, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Monday, June 22, 2020, at her home at Lake Byron, after a short battle with cancer.


Her private funeral service will be on Thursday at Welter Funeral Home, with a private burial at Emmanuel Mennonite Cemetery in Doland.

A celebration of Dottie’s life will begin at 5 p.m. on Thursday at her lake cabin on the north side of Lake Byron, meal and beverages will be provided, a time of sharing will also be held Thursday evening, all are welcome.


Visitation will be today at Welter Funeral Home from 1 to 5 p.m., with family present from 4 to 5 p.m. CDC guidelines will be in place.  


Dottie K. Gross was born on December 12, 1962, in Huron to parents Sidney Glenn and OrVonna Joan (Bennett) Gross. Dottie grew up in Huron attending McKinley Grade School, Huron Middle School and James Valley High School.


 Dottie worked at Bales, Dakota Pork, TrussBuilt, OverBuilt and Riverside MFG. She enjoyed her pets, camping, farming, fishing, Charolais cattle and entertaining friends. Growing up, Dottie was involved with 4-H and FFA.


 Grateful for having shared in her life are her siblings, Andrew Glenn Gross (Lee Christenson) of Lake Byron, Donald Wilkinson of Redfield, Joanne Karvonen of Vancouver, Wash., Carolyn Keil of Grand Canyon, Ariz.; life long best friend, Veda Obermann; Lake Byron Family, and many other friends. She is also survived by many aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her parents, OrVonna Joan Bennett on July 8, 1981 and Sidney Glenn Gross on July 10, 1996; and her son, Matthew Gross on November 26, 2006.


 In lieu of flowers, family requests that memorials be made to Beadle County Humane Society.
