HURON — Five drivers earned a spot in the Race of Champions on Saturday at Dakota State Fair Speedway.
The ROC events will be held during the 2017 Speedway Motors WISSOTA 100, which will be held at the Huron track on Sept. 13-16.
With a victory in the WISSOTA modified feature race on Saturday, Kent Arment of Aberdeen not only qualified for the Race of Champions, he moved to within one of recording the 600th main event victory of his career.
Arment, who is the all-time winningest driver in Dakota State Fair Speedway history with a total of 193 wins, started third and made his way to the front for his fourth win of the season.
Tyler McDonald of Huron, who started eighth, tailed Arment across the finish line to claim the second spot in the modified feature race on Saturday. Alex Guthmiller of Huron was third, followed by David McDonald of Huron and Dale Ames of Huron.
Arment and Chad Olsen of Hendricks, Minn., were the winners in the modified heat races.
David McDonald of Huron would return to cap the night with a victory in the WISSOTA late model main event. However, since he had already qualified for the ROC event with a win at Miller Central Speedway, Olsen earned the right to represent DSFS with a runner-up finish on Saturday.
The victory was the fourth of the season for McDonald at the Huron oval and 37th overall.
Chad Becker of Aberdeen was third in Saturday’s late model main event, followed by Arment and Gary Brown Jr. of Brandon.
Olsen and Brown Jr. won the late model heat races.
Collecting his first win of the season and the ROC berth that came with it in the WISSOTA super stock division on Saturday was Jeremy North of Huron.
North used his starting spot on the outside of the front row to snag the lead and cruise to the win, which was the fifth of his career at his hometown track.
Kelly Duffy of Winner was second in the super stock feature race, followed by Casey Hanson of Badger. Tyler Myers and Kip Myers, both of Ethan, rounded out the top five, with fourth- and fifth-place showings, respectively.
North and Dale Tomes of Dell Rapids won the super stock heat races.
Broc Stout of Winner and Lorin Johnson of Miller won their feature events in the WISSOTA street stock and Midwest modified divisions, respectively, from the pole starting spot.
Stout earned his spot in the Race of Champions with his third win of the season and 17th overall in the street stock main event. It snapped a two-race win streak by Blayne Baloun of St. Lawrence, who finished second on Saturday.
Andy Rossow of Florence was third, followed by Kenneth Clements of Madison and Cole Phillips of Winner.
Phillips, Baloun and Dave Brooker of Tulare were the heat race winners in the street stock division.

Johnson’s victory in the Midwest modified main event put him just three wins away from reaching the century mark in career wins at DSFS. Since he had won a ROC qualifier earlier in the season at Miller Central Speedway the DSFS slot in the race will be filled by Tracy Johnson of Lake Preston, who was second.
Scott Hansen of Garden City was third in the Midwest modified main event, followed by Lane Johnson of Miller and Brock Hess of Sioux Falls.
Lorin Johnson, Hansen and Britt Williams of Ft. Pierre collected winnings in the WISSOTA Midwest modified heat races.
The next scheduled event at DSFS will be the season championships on Aug. 19 at 7 p.m.
