RAPID CITY — Duane Ellis Schley, 85, passed away January 8, 2022, in Rapid City.
Duane was born in Iroquois on March 13, 1936, to Lucille & Marvin Schley. Duane married Burdean Raye Quam on April 29, 1961.
Duane was a truck driver in his younger years driving in Chicago, & then working for Glen Denning Trucks & later leasing Hyman Freightways in Huron. He & Burdean owned Schley’s Salvage, from 1979, until he retired in 2006.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin & Lucille Schley; an infant sister; one brother, Delbert Schley; his sister, Donna Knouse; his parents-in-law, Alvin & Helen Quam; five brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law; a daughter-in-law, Kelly Schley; & a grandson, Shawn Heins.
He’s survived by his wife, Burdean; four sons, Ralph, Steve, Randy & Dan; two daughters, Brenda (John Lorenz) & Bridget (Kevin Guerin); his grandchildren; great-grandchildren; one sister, Marilyn Jensen; sister-in-law, Marleen Moeller; brothers-in-law, Merle Quam & Lloyd Knouse; & his mini-pin/rat terrier, Coco.
We will celebrate his life by having a small ceremony at a later date in the Black Hills & Huron.
