WOLSEY — Ducks Unlimited will host demonstration tours and lunch in Beadle and Sanborn Counties, Nov. 1-2.
The Sanborn County tour, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., on Wednesday, Nov. 1, will feature wetland and grassland habitat restoration projects, along with soil health demonstrations that include cover crops aerially applied in September to standing soybeans. The event will be located 6 miles south and 2 miles east of Woonsocket.
The Beadle County tour, set to take place from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., on Thursday, Nov. 2, will feature soil health demonstrations and a cover crop tour, including cover crops inter-seeded into growing corn in June and aerially applied to standing corn in September. The event will be located 5 miles west, 2 miles south, and 1 mile west of Wolsey.

The Natural Resources Conservation Service will also feature the Rainfall Simulator at both events, which demonstrates how land management activities can affect water infiltration and runoff from precipitation.
“We are excited for the opportunity to host events like these to discuss soil health and promote DU’s emerging soil health program. The program is designed to work with South Dakota producers to improve sustainable and profitable agricultural practices, while also benefiting wildlife and water quality,” says DU Agronomist Brad Schmidt.
Partners in the event include the Beadle County Conservation District, Wildlife Conservation Society, NRCS, Mustang Seeds, Millborn Seeds, MJ Aviation, Wilde Air Service, and Next Level Ag, LLC.
The tours will conclude with a free lunch and extra time for questions and conversation. Both events are open to everyone.
