NEWTON, Kan. — Eli J. Walter, 96 of Newton, Kan., passed away Saturday, January 20, 2018, at Presbyterian Manor in Newton.
Funeral Service will be held Monday, January 29, with burial being held at 9:45 a.m. in Swiss Cemetery. The memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. following burial at Whitewater Community Church in Whitewater, Kan. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church. 
Eli was born January 9, 1922, in Hitchcock to Joe M. and Susie (Hofer) Walter.  He graduated from high school in Yale. He joined the Army serving in the Air Corps as a fighter pilot during WWII. He later graduated from Huron College and St. Paul Bible Institute. He was united in marriage to Adeline (Wipf) Walter in 1945.
He was a founding teacher at Sunshine Bible Academy in Miller; taught at Central Christian High School in Hutchinson, the Kansas Industrial Reformatory, and Berean Academy in Elbing. He served as pastor of Orchard Park MB Church for seven years.
He is survived by his wife; children, Kathie (Jack) Girst and Randy (Judy) Walter both of Hutchinson, Kan., and Daryl (Diane) Walter of Newton, Kan.; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother; and four sisters. 
He was preceded in death by three sisters; and one brother.
