WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Evelyn A. Hook, 97, of Wessington Springs, passed away December 30, 2016, at the Weskota Manor Nursing Home.
Her memorial service will be 2 p.m., Friday June 16, at the Basham Funeral Chapel in Wessington Springs. Inurnment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service.
Evelyn was born on February 3, 1919, to Giles W. and Bessie B. (Gourley) Mead. She lost her mother at age two and spent the next 11 years with her maternal grandmother. When her dad remarried, she went to live with them. She attended rural school and W.S.H.S.
She was united in marriage to Elliot Hook June 30, 1937. They resided in Wessington Springs until October of 1948, when they moved to a farm in Media Township where they lived until November of 1985 upon retirement, they moved back to Wessington Springs.
She is survived by her children, Cherrie (Mylan) Charles, Roma (Dan) McLaughlin, Arline Shottenkirk, Hannah Miller, and Dave (Kristie) Hook; 22 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and cousin Carol Christensen.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Donald; grandsons, Jaime Miller, and Brad and Randy Hook; daughter-in-law Carrie Hook; sons-in-law, Harold Creighton and Stanley Miller; sister, Marian Mead; and brothers, Rueben and Donald Stricklett.
