SHAKOPEE, Minn. — Gary John Hawley, 73, of Shakopee, Minn., passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2017, after a long battle with cancer.
A Memorial service will be from 10 to 10:30 a.m., followed by a celebration of life from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, November, 17, at the Cremation Society of Minnesota Edina Chapel, 7110 France Ave. S. in Edina, Minn.
He grew up in Huron and attended S.D. State for one year before moving to Minneapolis. He graduated from Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 1967. He was honored to have had one of his paintings selected to show in the Walker Art Institute for a month. Following graduation, he was united in marriage to Patricia and enlisted in the U.S. Army.
He had a long career as a Creative Art Director. He was an avid photographer, artist, magician, toy collector and humorist. He loved music and good comedy. His sense of humor was a gift to those who knew him. In 2008, Gary and Patricia joined River Valley Theatre Company designing sets, making props, painting scenery and in general, having great fun.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia; son, Ryan; granddaughter, Morgan; siblings, Nancy and Steven; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends.
He was preceded in death by William and Helen Hawley.
The Cremation Society of Minnesota has been entrusted with arrangements. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society
