HURON — Gaylord L. “Gus” Lundberg, 87, of Huron, passed away Friday, August 4, 2017, at Violet Tschetter Memorial Home.
In accordance with Gus’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family inurnment service will take place in the mausoleum at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. A public memorial mass will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with details to be announced at a later date by the Welter Funeral Home in Huron.
Gaylord “Gus” Lennis Lundberg was born April 20, 1930 in Redfield to August L. and Agnes (Hurlbut) Lundberg. He was educated in Trimont, Minn., Castro Valley, Calif., and Huron. He joined the Army National Guard in 1948, and was called to active duty in 1950, where he served at Camp Carson, Colo. until his discharge in 1951.
He married Rita M. Starzl Pedersen June 1, 1956, at St. Martins Catholic Church in Huron. He was employed at St. Johns Hospital and the Marvin Hughitt Hotel as an audit clerk for 15 years and then employed at Hickory House Motor Inn for several years in the same capacity. He retired in 1986, due to a visual disability. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his early adult years.
Gus was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish and American Legion where he had 50 plus years of membership.
Gus is survived by two daughters, Gayleen (Kevin) Parsons of Huron, and Kathy (Steven) Wagenaar of Aberdeen; one son, Michael (April) Lundberg of Watertown; grandchildren, Cole (Becky) Wagenaar of Oroville, Calif., Case (Tess) Wagenaar of Grand Forks, N.D., Megan (Chad) Flemming of Watertown, Seth (Danielle) Lundberg of Dilworth, Minn., Sherry (John) Jackson of Sioux Falls, and Darrel Parsons of Aberdeen; many great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Carol Starzl of Centerville, and Lozetta (Tom) Doll of Lyle, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Rita, June 15, 2017.
