Gazelles captures ESD golf title; Huron finishes eighth

HURON — The Yankton Gazelles, led by medalist Peyton Tramp, took two of the top three spots en route to the title at the Eastern South Dakota Conference golf tournament, held Thursday under threatening skies at Broadland Creek Golf Course.
The Gazelles ended the day with a four-person score of 336 on the BCGC layout, surprising runner-up Aberdeen Central by seven strokes and finishing 16 strokes ahead of Harrisburg.
Pierre finished fourth with a 357, Mitchell shot 369 for fifth and Watertown was sixth with a 376.

The Huron Tigers had a tough day on their home course, shooting a team total of 416 to finish eighth in the standings.
Tramp shot a five-over-par 77 on the day to claim the medalist honors for Yankton. Reese Jansa of Harrisburg was second with an 80 and Yankton’s Morgan Strahl and Brooklyn Hofer of Aberdeen Central each carded 82s on the day to tie for third.
Halle Gronlund of Pierre was fifth with an 83 and Cassidy Gough of Aberdeen was sixth with an 84.
Huron’s Karlie Bigelow shot 85, putting her in a three-way tie for seventh place in the conference and earning her All-ESD status. All golfers in the top 15 earn All-Conference recognition.
Bryn Huber shot 94, to finish tied for 25th in the field, Kenya Bigelow took 31st with a score of 97 and Libby Picek shot 140 to finish 52nd on the day.
Next up for the golfers will be the Class “AA” State Golf Tournament, set for June 3-4, at Cattail Crossing Golf Course in Watertown.
