HURON — Geraldine (Gerri) Boyd, age 78, of Huron, passed away on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls surrounded by her loving family.
Her funeral service will be on Saturday, April 17, at 10:30 a.m. at American Lutheran Church in Huron with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation, with her family present, will be from 9 a.m. to the time of service at the church on Saturday. Her funeral service will be livestreamed on the American Lutheran Church Facebook page.
Geraldine Rae was born on January 3, 1943 to parents Lloyd and Grace (Bowder) Hill Jr. in Huron. Gerri attended Huron schools, graduating in 1961. She then attended St. John’s Nursing School, achieving her RN degree.
Gerri married Rod Boyd on January 29, 1965 at American Lutheran Church in Huron. Gerri and Rod raised their family in Huron where Gerri worked at St. John’s Hospital, Tschetter-Hohm Clinic for 26 years, as a nursing instructor at St. John’s School of Nursing and as an infection control specialist for Huron Regional Medical Center for the last seven years of her career.
Gerri loved to write letters to her grandchildren. She wrote weekly letters to each grandchild for 14 years. She loved to read books and enjoyed her morning coffee. She was very involved in her families’ daily lives and enjoyed attending all of her kids and grandkids events. She was a member of American Lutheran Church where she liked to send cards to fellow parishioners. She was also a member of American Nurses’ Association.
 Grateful for having shared in her life is her husband, Rod of Huron; her son, Todd (Nancy) Boyd of Mitchell; daughters, Teresa (Bryan) Smith of Huron and Jacki (Dave) Roy of Mitchell; eight grandchildren, Andrew (Kyla) Boyd, Ryan (Erika) Boyd, Spencer (Anna) Boyd, Emma (Jon) Jungemann, Hannah Smith (Ravi Teja Sammangi), Will Smith (Brylee Eden), Alyssa (Sid) Stemper, and Sara Roy; four great-grandchildren, Jace, Cooper, Collins, and Arthur; a sister Jeanne (Don) Walton of Mills River, N.C., and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her granddaughter, Abby Roy.
