ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa — Gilbert “Gib” Postma, 86, of Rock Rapids, Iowa and formerly of Doon, Iowa, passed away Monday, July 30, 2018, at Sanford Rock Rapids Medical Center.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 3, at First Reformed Church in Doon. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery west of Doon. Visitation with the family present will be held Thursday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.
Gilbert Postma was born May 25, 1932, west of Doon, Iowa., to Marc and Coba (Van Batavia) Postma. He was united in marriage to Marie DeBruin October 13, 1949. He worked at Sioux-Preme Packing Company in Sioux Center, Iowa for 27 years. He went on to work at the Sioux Center Sale Barn for 10 years.
He is survived by his children, Rod (Joella) Postma of Doon, Iowa, Janice Den Besten of Rock Rapids, Iowa, Doug (LaVonne) Postma of Rock Valley, Iowa, Glenn (Rhonda) Postma of Doon, Iowa, Dwayne (Sharon) Postma of Rock Rapids, Iowa, Bud (Kelly) Postma of Madison, S.D., and Mike Postma of Huron; 22 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Marlys DeBruin of Rock Rapids, Iowa; brother, Kenny (Harriet) Postma of Doon, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie; son, Donald Postma; and brother-in-law, Garrit DeBruin.
Memorials may be given to the First Reformed Church in Doon, Iowa.
