HURON — A fund drive begun by the Huron Community Foundation has reached nearly half of its goal, according to the HCF board chairman.
“The pledges or funds received is currently at $99,914 in less than a month since our challenge drive started,” said board chairman Steve Gohn. “Our board couldn’t be more pleased at the community’s support.
The fund drive’s goal is to raise $200,000 by Dec. 31, 2021. If successful, the South Dakota Community Foundation will match the funds with a $25,000 donation.
The Huron Community Foundation maintains donated funds beneath the umbrella of the S.D. Community Foundation. Donated funds are invested and the interest received is returned each year and is sent out via grants into the community. Last year, the Huron Community Foundation was able to assist nearly two dozen local groups and organizations.
“Last fall the HCF Board hosted Huron Rising, a series of Town Hall meetings, where residents identified the most pressing community needs,” Gohn said.
“Many of these important projects need funding to make them become a reality. Our hope is when we are successful in our fundraising efforts our foundation will then be able to grant an additional $10,125 every year.”
