HURON — Tuesday’s numbers announced by the South Dakota Department of Health (DOH) brought new positive cases to the tallies of four Heartland region counties, but the new recovered cases in five of the seven counties in the region brought the region’s active COVID-19 case load down to 82.
Statewide, the state announced 193 new positive cases on the day. However, the notable number at the state level is the rising number of hospitalizations across the state. The DOH announced 24 new hospitalizations on Tuesday due to COVID-19, and there are 133 individuals currently hospitalized due to the virus, a new high for the state.
The Heartland region only had one new hospitalization on Tuesday, in Spink County. That brings Spink’s total to 10 hospitalizations due to the virus.
Beadle County had one new positive case announced Tuesday along with three new recovered cases. Beadle has 25 active cases currently.
Clark and Hand counties each added three new positive cases, while Jerauld added one new positive case. In all, Heartland counties added eight new positive cases and 12 new recovered cases to bring down the active case load for the region.
