Heartland Region passes 800 active cases

HURON — After the Monday holiday, Tuesday’s numbers reflected the COVID-19 numbers that the South Dakota Department of Health (DOH) typically releases on Monday. Wednesday’s release will catch up with Tuesday’s numbers added into Wednesday’s regular numbers.

The state added 2,265 new positive cases, one new death, and 286 new recovered cases. Active cases in the state jumped to 28,813, another new single-day high for the state. This is the fifth consecutive DOH report that revealed a new single-day high for state active cases.

Beadle County added 31 new positive cases and one new recovered case. Active virus cases in the county ballooned to 392.

The Heartland Region added 74 new positive cases and eight new recovered cases. Active cases in the seven-county region reached 824, the first time the region has been over 800 since November 2020.
