Heartland track athletes claim places in Class B

SIOUX FALLS – The Colman-Egan Hawks used a strong final day to claim the girls’ title and Ipswich and Gregory tied atop the boys’ division at the Class B state track meet’s final day of action Saturday at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls.

Colman-Egan turned a close girls’ team race to a blowout with five titles in the final day to accumulate 88 team points, outpacing Deubrook Area and Chester who tied for second with 49 team points.

Iroquois/Lake Preston was the highest-finishing Heartland team, tying for 11th with 20 points.

Adison Moore claimed three place-winning finishes Saturday for Iroquois/Lake Preston, claiming fifth in the 100 and 200 runs and eighth place in the 400.

Highmore-Harrold’s Autumn Fallis claimed her second medal of the weekend, finishing fourth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:23.55. Avery Miles of Hitchcock-Tulare finished eighth in the event at 5:26.88.

Andee Frandsen claimed two medals for James Valley Christian, finishing eighth in the 100 hurdles and finishing fifth in the 300 hurdles.

Sunshine Bible Academy led for most of the first three laps of the 4x400 relay, finishing sixth with a time of 4:12.99.

A fifth-place finish in the final event of the day, the 4x400 relay and an individual championship in the high jump, the last Class “B” boys’ field event of the day, secured Gregory a tie with Ipswich atop the boys’ team ranks, each finishing with 54 points.

Wolsey-Wessington placed seventh with 31.5 points.

TJ Salmen of Hitchcock-Tulare finished his career with a pair of medals Saturday, claiming fourth in the 110 hurdles and second in the 300 hurdles.

JVC’s Dax Frandsen finished fifth in the 1600 with a time of 4:42.51. Julius Pagels of Wolsey-Wessington finished just out of placing with a ninth-place mark in the same race.

The Warbirds’ 4x400 relay finished fourth while Moshe Richmond tied for seventh in the high jump.

Wessington Springs’ Ryder Michalek finished sixth in the high jump.
