Hegg Brothers Holiday Jam to benefit Student United Way - Huron Youth Leadership Council

HURON — For the third straight holiday season, some of the top entertainment in the state will be in Huron, when the Hegg Brothers Holiday Jam plays its 2018 show. This year’s Huron holiday show, headlined by brothers Jonathon and Jeremy Hegg, is set for 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 9, at the Huron High School Auditorium and tickets are going fast. There is also a concert that will take place this Sunday, Dec. 2, in Miller.
The Hegg Brothers Holiday Jam is patterned after the South Dakota Acoustic Christmas group, which toured the state for several years. Each concert is presented to benefit a specific group or organization in the area. In Miller, OnHand Economic Development will benefit from the holiday music, while Huron’s concert will benefit the Student United Way - Huron Youth Leadership Council.
“The Student United Way - Huron Youth Leadership Council has, since its inception, granted more than $28,000 to organizations impacting youth in the area,” said United Way - Heartland Region executive director Rhonda Kludt, who is an advisor for the group.
Kludt added that in the last granting cycle, a total of $3,310 in funds was presented to 10 different groups, including the Huron Post Prom, the Backpack Program, Destination Imagination, Kindness Club and the James River Royal Kids Camp.

“HYLC is a great organization. It gave me so many opportunities in my high school career,” said Vanessa Tschetter, a council member. “It has given me many wonderful volunteer opportunities and also gave me an opportunity to give back to the community by awarding grants to worthwhile causes.”
The group exists beneath the umbrella of the United Way-Heartland Region, according to Kludt, and fulfills the United Way’s commitment to growing and engaging the next generation of leaders in the community.
“HYLC focuses on three pillars of activity,” she noted, “philanthropy, volunteerism and civic engagement. The group has approximately 50 members and students from this group serve on many different organizational boards in the area, including United Way, the Huron Community Foundation, the Jan Manolis Safe Center and the Center for Independence, to name just a few.”
HYLC members are also volunteers throughout the community for many different groups and activities. The students recently implemented a ‘Reading Pals’ program with the after-school program at the Madison 2-3 Learning Center, doing mentorship activities with second graders at the school.
But back to the concert.
“The Hegg Brothers Holiday Jam is an excellent way to enjoy the holidays with friends and families,” said Dr. Wayne Carr of the Huron Chamber and Visitor’s Bureau, who co-hosts the concert with HYLC.  “It’s great holiday entertainment that will start your Christmas season off with joy and splendor. We help bring this event to Huron to thank the community for all it does for our organization and to bring some Christmas joy to everyone.”
“ I hope you all come out and support Student United Way-HYLC by attending The Hegg Brothers concert,” Tschetter said. “It is always a great concert and you will be glad you went!”
Tickets ($20 adult/$10 student) are available at the Chamber. For more information, call the Chamber at 352-0000 or Kludt at 354-4199.
