Heinz wins regional Elks Hoop Shoot contest

RAPID CITY — Hamtyn Heinz of Huron was the top shooter in the girls’ division for ages 12-13 at the Northwest Central Region 2 Elks Hoop Shoot, which was held Saturday in Rapid City.
Heinz, who is the 13-year-old daughter of Dennis and Peggy Heinz, converted on 19 of 25 shots from the free-throw line to secure the top shot and earn a spot in the national competition.
Heinz’s total score also earned her the Cam Cronke Best of the Best trophy, which was  awarded to the top female and male shooters in each division.
Heinz, who competed against shooters from North Dakota and Montana, will now advance to the Elks Hoop Shoot National Finals, which will be held April 27 in Chicago. She will compete against the winners from the 12 regions across the country.
