HURON — Helen A. Jager, 82, of Huron, passed away Friday, June 8, 2018, at SunQuest Health Care Center.
Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Riverview United Methodist Church followed by burial at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Welter Funeral Home or one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
Helen Ann Reilly was born on January 20, 1936, in Huron to Charles A. and Averil V. (Deeg) Reilly. The family lived south of Huron until moving to a farm northeast of Virgil in 1945. She attended the Wild Rose rural school and graduated from Virgil High School in 1955.
After moving to Huron, she worked at Huron College and in food service at local restaurants. She was a former member of the Virgil American Legion Auxiliary. Helen was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in November 2003. She enjoyed watching the Twins games and basketball on TV, reading along with “Word Find” games. She collected chicken and owl figurines along with stamps.
Helen and Arthur Jager were married at First United Methodist Church on October 6, 1978. Art passed away on October 19, 1993.
Helen is survived by her sister, Alice E. Mentzel, and in-laws, Adaline Reilly, Judy Reilly, and George Tapken; many nieces and nephews, and Art’s sons, Luverne, Clifford, and Daryl.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband Arthur; parents; siblings, E. Jean Tapken, Donald, Richard, Robert, and infant brother Charles; and in-laws, Nadine Reilly and Harlan Mentzel.
