Helping Hands recognized by DOE

Helping Hands Thrift Shop in Huron was recently recognized by the South Dakota Department of Education — Child and Adult Nutrition Services, with a Certificate of Appreciation for their hard work and dedication during the COVID-19 pandemic as they continued to feed those in need of supplemental food supplies.

Though it was a challenge for Helping Hands volunteers, the food bank and thrift store were able to remain open most of the time through the pandemic.

During this time, Helping Hands was also able to do some remodeling and added new carpeting to the store as well as new freezers and a refrigerator to hold the food supply.

Helping Hands would like to thank all those who gave donations of money and items, as well as the volunteers — because without volunteers, the positive changes to the store could not have been made.

If you haven’t been in the store recently, please stop in and see the improvements.

Helping Hands is open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. The store is currently having its summer Red Bag sale that runs through Aug. 19, offering all summer clothes of your choice at $2 per bag.

The thrift shop is located on Dakota Avenue North, directly west of Taco John’s.
