HHS Speech and Debate open 2023-2024 season

BRANDON VALLEY — The Huron Tiger Speech and Debate team started its season at the Brandon Valley Speaking Lynx Invitational. A total of 166 competitors from 21 schools were at the competition. Huron took seven students to the competition to compete in various oral interp events. Tessa Gogolin competed in Varsity Humorous. She made it into the final round and come out with a fifth-place finish. Isabella Schaefer competed in Novice Dramatic. She too made it into a final round and placed third.
Khunnaphut Muepae competed in Novice Non Original Oratory; he was just short of making it into the final round of six with an overall finish of seventh place after the first three rounds.
“I am very proud of how the students did at our first competition,” said coach Laura Iverson.
“This was an early start for our team. We usually do not attend our first competition for a few more weeks, but the team was anxious to get the season started, and they have been working hard.”
Also representing HHS were Samantha Swanson and Mylie Byrd in Varsity Duo, Mackenzie Copeland in Varsity Drama, and Lily Halter in Varsity Poetry.
