9 - Tea (40)
10 - Mitchell (35)
11 - Dakota Valley (9)
12 - SF Washington (0)
13 - Vermillion (0)
14 - SF Christian (0)
Top finishers for Huron:
• In Varsity Public Forum Debate, Sean Preston and Reese Uecker went 4-0 and placed first, while Sofia Ledeneva and Jacob Hotchkiss went 3-1 and placed third.
• In Programmed Oral Interp, Jasmine Snow placed first.
• In Humorous Interp, Reese Uecker placed second.
• In Varsity Oratory, Sophia Ledeneva placed third.
“We did have some good finishes in Varsity Public Forum Debate, Oratory, and some of the Interp divisions,” said head coach Mitch Gaffer. “Sean and Reese had a good tournament.
“We still have some work to do to improve some of our speech and debate divisions,” Gaffer said. “If we put in our time, the coaches believe we can get students into the finals of more divisions. But it’s going to take a real effort to catch up to where our competition seems to be. We have a long way to go if we want to extend the CFC first/second place streak.”
Huron has finished either first or second in the CFC conference for the past 31 years.
“We had a variety of speech and debate events not covered for this tournament,” Gaffer added. “It makes it hard to get into the top two places with so many events not covered. This was really the first tournament that we’ve been able to travel with a majority of our team, and we still have some students we hope to have ready to go right after Christmas break. But we did have a good portion of the team at this first CFC tournament.”
The next tournament for the team is the Brookings Bell Tournament on Dec. 15-16. Then they are off for Christmas break.
