Hitchcock-Tulare hangs on to claim 281 volleyball title

FORESTBURG — The Hitchcock-Tulare Lady Patriots took a 3-2 win in a nail-biting championship match against the Wolsey-Wessington Lady Warbirds at the 281 conference on Saturday night.
In a best of five match, the Warbirds took a well played 25-17 win in the first set. Then the Lady Patriots took the next two sets 25-13 and 25-21. The Warbirds came back with a bang in the fourth set winning with a convincing score of 25-15, but the Lady Patriots ended the match at 15-9 in the fifth set.
Baylee Enander hit 16 kills for the Lady Patriots, while Sydney Maynard had eight and Ally Binger hit six kills.
Camryn Binger was 58 for 60 setting with 23 assists and Kenidee Enander had 14 assists for Hitchcock-Tulare. Ashlyn Otto had four aces and 28 defensive digs, while Dawsyn Otto was 17 for 17 with two aces.
Lizzi Brandt was 41 for 43 with 10 kills for Wolsey-Wessington, while Chantel Hiader had nine kills, two assists and 17 digs. Raquel Nelson, Taylor Sprecher and Shayla Muilenburg all had one ace.
The Lady Patriots are now 10-11 on the season and will be back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 10, when they host a match against the Groton Area Tigers. Wolsey-Wessington will travel to Iroquois to tackle the Lady Chiefs on Tuesday.

Sanborn Central-Woonsocket 3, Highmore-Harrold 0
FORESTBURG — The Sanborn Central-Woonsocket Blackhawks took third place in Saturday’s 281 conference, winning 3-0 against the Highmore-Harrold Pirates. Set scores for the match were 25-16, 25-23 and 25-13.
Abby Doering hit six kills and six aces for the Blackhawks, while Tesa Jensen hit eight kills and two blocks. Erica Howard hit six kills and Tristan Ziebart made 9 digs and had 17 assists.
Leading the Pirates was Rebecca Buccholz, who was 11 for 12 with two aces and had 21 assists, while Zoe Tvedt hit 10 kills and Tyra Flaaen had five kills and one assist.
Semi-finals
Hitchcock-Tulare 3, Sanborn Central-Woonsocket 0
FORESTBURG — The Hitchcock-Tulare Lady Patriots took a swift 3-0 win against the Sanborn Central-Woonsocket Blackhawks, in the semifinal game at the 281 conference on Saturday afternoon.
Set scores were 25-16, 25-19 and 25-21.
Baylee Enander was 30 for 33 with 10 kills and made 14 digs for the Patriots, while Ally Binger was 11 for 11 with three aces, also hitting seven kills. Camryn Binger hit four aces and had 17 assists, while Kenidee Enander was 44 for 46 with 13 assists.
The Blackhawks were led by Abby Doering hitting 12 kills and two blocks, while Erica Howard had two aces and Tesa Jensen hit 11 kills. Tristan Ziebart had 21assists and 14 digs.
Wolsey-Wessington 3, Highmore-Harrold 0
FORESTBURG — The Wolsey-Wessington Lady Warbirds swooped into the championship match after defeating the Highmore-Harrold Pirates 3-0 in the semi-finals at the 281 conference on Saturday afternoon.
Set scores were 25-18, 25-21, 26-24.
Leading the Warbirds was Lizzi Brandt, with four kills and five aces, while Ally Boomsma and Taylor Sprecher each had one ace. Chantel Haider hit seven kills and made eight digs, while Shayla Muilenber had 22 assists. Cortney Sprecher hit five kills and eight blocks.
Rebecca Buchholz of the Pirate was 11 for 12 with two aces, 80 for 82 with 21 assists and had 22 digs, while Sydney Mars had one ace. Zoe Tuedt hit 10 kills, while Tyra Flaaen had five kills.
