Posted

HURON — Trey Holston of Ft. Scott, Kan., is no stranger to the spotlight. He found himself in the spotlight Wednesday night after winning the 2018 Red Wilk Construction Tuff Hedeman Tour Bull Bash during Preview Night at the South Dakota State Fair.
Holston, who was the 2017 bull riding champion at the National High School Finals Rodeo, recorded a score of 88 on a bull named Uptown Funk. It was just one of eight qualified rides during Wednesday’s performance, which featured 38 riders.
Holston’s 88-point ride edged out Kritter Lamb of Timber Lake, Jeffrey Ramagos of Zachary, La.; and Tristan Mize of Bryan Texas, who all had scores of 87 points. Mike Lee of Alvord, Texas and Corey Atwell of Moravian Falls, N.C., had scores of 86 points.
The victory for Holston earned him a shot at facing the Bounty  Bull, which was Jake Brake of Harris/Rocking C Bucking Bulls. Unfortunately, Holston wasn’t able to cover the 8 second span to collect the $10,000, which was on the line for a qualified ride.

The final night of the Tuff Hedeman Tour Event was held Thursday at the South Dakota State Fair. Results from Thursday’s event were not available at press time and will be run in Saturday’s paper
