Holy Trinity fifth grade plans Business Fair

HURON — Holy Trinity Catholic School fifth-graders will host their annual Business Fair on Monday, May 8, in the school’s multipurpose room.
The Business Fair is an excellent way to teach students about what it takes to develop a product that others will want to purchase. The students have made some very creative crafts and delicious food products.
Holy Trinity fifth-graders created a product, a business name, business cards using Publisher, wrote their own radio ads and went to KIJV to record them, and created posters using Word and the 5 W’s.

They price their products by adding up cost of supplies and include an hourly wage, learn how to package and display their products, and they dress for success on the day of the fair. They also have speakers come in to discuss marketing, finance, and advertising. One student mentioned that she learned patience in the process.
Students learn to communicate with customers. They even receive a First Dollar of Profit from the Huron Chamber of Commerce when the ribbon-cutting ceremony is held by the Chamber Ambassadors.
“We appreciate the support we have had from the people of Huron,” said fifth grade teacher Ann Blondheim. “It is our intent to pay it forward!”
Some of the items to be on sale this year will include homemade string guitars, marshmallow shooters, caramel cookies, homemade tamales and greeting cards, cookies and brownies, banana bread, stress balls, S’mores In a Jar, Koolaid Krazy Straws, creations from reclaimed pallets, dog treats and bookmarks, jewelry and candy flowers, draw-string bags, mini-center pieces and suckers.
