HURON — The Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) Auxiliary hosted its annual membership luncheon Oct. 23 in the HRMC Legacy Plaza Auditorium.
During the luncheon, HRMC President and CEO David Dick updated the group on physician and healthcare worker recruitment, including efforts by the hospital and local nursing taskforce to bring an associate nursing degree program back to the community.
Dick also updated the group on a change to telephone satisfaction surveys patients receive after an overnight stay in the hospital, asking group members for help in encouraging patients to answer the phone and provide feedback.
Dr. Eric Chow, an internist with the HRMC Physicians Clinic, then presented information on the risks and current treatment options for Alzheimer’s Disease, focusing on steps auxiliary members could take to reduce their risk for the disease.

Several departments were on-hand to show their appreciation for recent equipment purchased by the auxiliary including: respiratory therapy for a mobile oxygen measuring device, emergency room for an iPad to entertain pediatric patients; and rehabilitation services for a set of leg/arm weights to be used in patient rooms during the therapy process.
Officers for the coming year were also installed at the event, including Renee Goldammer and Jackie Spillum-copresidents, Shirley Knutson-vice president and membership chair, Judy Tschetter-treasurer and Jackie Butler-secretary.
The purpose of the Auxiliary is to promote and advance the welfare of HRMC by rendering service to patients and assisting with and contributing to charitable projects. As members of the Auxiliary, volunteers serve daily, providing refreshments and assistance in hospital lounges, assisting visitors with hospital and patient information at the information desks, and delivering floral arrangements to patients. Auxiliary volunteers also manage and staff the hospital gift shops located in the main hospital and Central Tower lobbies. More volunteers are needed and encouraged to learn more.
Auxiliary funds are raised through annual events, gift shop/candy counter sales and membership dues. For more information on HRMC’s Auxiliary or to volunteer, contact HRMC at 605-353-6565 or online at www.huronregional.org, click on the About Us.
