HRMC donates nearly $21,000 to United Way

The Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) board of directors recently voted to match employee contributions to donate a combined total of $20,818.66 to the 2021 United Way Heartland Region (UWHR) campaign.

“I’m very grateful that my pregnant patients can enroll in the Dolly Parton Imagination Library to receive free books for their new babies,” said Dr. Elyse Brock, OB/Gyn at HRMC’s Women’s Wellness Center and UWHR board member. “I also appreciate that my patients without reliable transportation can take advantage of reduced fares on People’s Transit to come to their appointments.

“United way makes these and many other programs possible,” explained Dr. Brock, who has also served as HRMC’s employee drive organizer for the last four campaigns. “I’m grateful for the hospital employees’ continued support of the annual campaign, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

A team of HRMC employees hosted an internal drive kick-off event in October, complete with root beer floats and door prize drawings. Pledges were collected through the month of November and with the board contribution of $12,000, the UWHR received nearly $21,000.

“This year more than ever, our partner agencies will be relying on UWHR funding to help reach their clients and meet their annual budgets” said UWHR executive director Jen Bragg. “Our continued partnership with HRMC is crucial to our campaign each year. Without the generosity of the employees and board, we would not be able to reach so many in need throughout the region.”

This year’s UWHR campaign goal is $275,000 and funds will help to continue the work of 34 different programs in the Heartland Region. In addition, the UWHR supports 13 community impact programs and projects, including the Heartland Region Backpack Program, the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, Student United Way-Huron Youth Leadership Program, the Delta Dental Bus, Day of Caring, Hunger Games, MENtors Volunteer Program, Homes for the Holiday Bed Giveaway, and Born Learning Trails in our community.

“There’s still time to make a difference, to make your contribution to the UWHR and help us reach our goal,” said Bragg. Interested donors can contact the United Way office at 605-352-3537 or download a pledge card form at www.liveunitedhuron.com.
