HURON — Huron Regional Medical Center’s We’ve Got You Covered is a program designed to increase the number of women receiving regular mammograms through awareness activities and free mammograms.
According to the American Cancer Society, 1 in 8 women will get breast cancer. More women in South Dakota are impacted by breast cancer than anywhere else in the nation, and the breast cancer incidence rate in HRMC’s seven-county service area is higher than in other areas of the state, according to a report by Susan G. Komen-South Dakota. The report also indicates that of women age 40 and over who live in HRMC’s service area, 39 to 45 percent had not received a screening mammogram in the past 12 months. The goal of the We’ve Got You Covered program is to decrease those figures.
Women between the ages of 40-64 or under the age of 40 with an increased risk who have not had a mammogram in two years and do not have insurance that covers a mammogram, are eligible to receive a free mammogram thanks to the generous donations of area residents to the HRMC Foundation.
