HURON — Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) honored its September Exceptional Employee of the Month, Susan Prentice, with a reception on Sept. 13.
Prentice, who has worked at HRMC for eight years, was nominated by co-workers to receive the honor.
According to nominating co-workers, “Susan is especially compassionate towards patients, keeping their needs in mind as she assists them in her role at the switchboard.
“She is flexible and quickly changes what she is doing to accommodate customers and spends time talking to anyone who enters her work space,” the nomination form continued. “She is also always willing to help out her co-workers by filling in when needed.”
HRMC’s Exceptional Employee of the Month award recognizes an employee who goes above and beyond to exceed expectations.

Employees can be nominated by other employees or by a patient or visitor who witnesses exceptional service. A committee of employees from various hospital departments chooses the employee on a monthly basis and an Exceptional Employee of the Year is chosen at year-end from the 12 monthly honorees.
As September exceptional employee, Prentice received a reception with friends and co-workers, a meal certificate to a local restaurant, a professional photo session and portrait, $50, a lapel pin and a special parking place for a month.
Prentice attended Southern Illinois University and studied food nutrition and restaurant management. She moved to Huron in 1983 and worked in several area restaurants including the opening and management of the Crossroads Hotel restaurants. Prior to joining HRMC, she managed Dakota Vision Center while also working at the Tailgate Restaurant until it was sold.
“After working several other healthcare-related jobs, I was hired by HRMC where I found the perfect fit,” said Prentice. “I enjoy my job, and it’s great to be part of such a wonderful team. My plans are to retire from here, whenever that may be.”
She and her husband, Delton, live in Wessington and have three grown children: Hannah, Drew and David who all graduated from Wolsey-Wessington High School.
Patients or visitors can nominate an exceptional employee by calling 353-6539 for a nomination form or via e-mail at hr@huronregional.org.
